About the work

“Icosahedron” is part of a series of paintings inspired by the five Platonic solids, geometric figures that embody the harmony and perfection of the universe. These regular polyhedra, characterized by equivalent edges and vertices, have been studied by philosophers and artists throughout history, from Plato in the Timaeus to Leonardo da Vinci in his illustrative studies for Luca Pacioli.

In this painting, the nude body emerges and expands from a three-dimensional icosahedron, almost breaking through the limits imposed by geometry. The use of color and light evokes an ethereal dimension, where the human figure seems suspended between physical reality and a metaphysical realm. The tension in the body, with its arm reaching outward, suggests a longing to transcend the boundaries of the perfect form, symbolizing the relationship between humanity and the pursuit of absolute knowledge.

The icosahedron, associated with the element of Water, is the pulsating core of the artwork, recalling fluidity, change, and transformation. This choice is not accidental but is part of an artistic exploration that merges art and science, reflecting on the relationship between body and space, matter and ideal form.
